THE MUSIC NATURE OF LEA FREIRE
Documentary. 94min. Directed by Lucas Weglinski. 2022. Brazil
"The contemporary Villa-Lobos", "The new Tom Jobim", "The Hermeto in skirts" are some of the masculine nicknames that follow Léa Freire, the first woman in Brazil to be an exceptional instrumentalist, improviser, arranger, and symphonic composer. In the vanguard of instrumental and orchestral Brazilian and Jazz music, universes that are still exclusively male, macho and misogynistic, Léa breaks the barrier between the classical and the popular, creating a unique sound, extremely Brazilian and universal.
